A man will spend the next two years in state prison for raping a child. 33-year-old Chad Springstead of Allegany had sex with a person younger than 15 in April of last year in the Town of Allegany. A man accused of assaulting a security guard at the High Rise on Bushnell Street is behind bars. 43-year-old Charles Sisler approached the security guard at his desk at around 10:15 Saturday night and accused him of causing problems for him, according to court records. Sisler then pulled the guard’s chair out from under him, knocking him the floor, jumped on him, and put his forearm on the guard’s throat, choking him. He also threatened to kill him. Sisler stopped and got off of the guard when a witness came out. Later, Sister told police he had been drinking heavily and had been using illegal drugs. Besides going to the Pacific Pride gas depot, where a vehicle hit a gas pump, City of Bradford Police were kept busy Monday with reports of a disturbance on Welch Avenue, barking dogs on South Kendall, harassment on Interstate Parkway and a theft on High Street. A woman accused of selling heroin, oxycodone, hydrocodone and Fentanyl to agents with the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force is facing a number of charges. 38-year-old Nealie Lindsler-Crowley of Buffalo was arrested over the weekend in Salamanca in connection to incidents from January to August of last year. Lindsler-Crowley is in Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Arson is the cause of a fire that destroyed the former Suzy’s Furniture building in St. Marys early Friday morning. State Police Fire Marshal Robert Southern determined the fire was deliberately set after finding multiple points of origin. St. Marys City Police are continuing the investigation. Crystal Fire Department was called at 2:45 Friday morning to the building on Route 255. Eventually, every fire department in Elk County was called to battle the blaze. A fire early Saturday morning damaged a home at 43 Clinton Street in Bradford. City fire department Lt. Greg Lewis says the blaze started at a first floor gas furnace, and then spread. Damage is estimated at $85,000. A state police fire marshal has been called in to investigate. Tenants Melissa Hinchman and Adam Priest were able to get out safely. Part of Route 6 near Youngsville is still closed after a truck carrying asphalt rolled over Sunday afternoon. The crash happened at about 4:45 p.m. The westbound lanes of Route 6 near the interchange with Route 62 and the Forge Curve re-opened at about 7:30 this morning. The eastbound lanes are still closed, and there is a detour from Youngsville to Starbrick. Police say 55-year-old Asa Brown of Fredericktown, Ohio, was traveling west when the tractor-trailer went out of control and hit a concrete barrier in the median, puncturing the tanker and spilling asphalt. Some of the asphalt went down a hill and into Brokenstraw Creek. A hazmat team was called in to help with the cleanup. Brown wasn’t hurt. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Two Bradford men are accused of breaking into vehicles and stealing items in the Bolivar Drive and Colonial Heights areas this morning. City police say 22-year-old Michael Bailey and 20-year-old William Schoonover were found in the vicinity of the break-ins and had some of the stolen items with them. Police say the targeted vehicles were unlocked and there did not appear to be any damage to them. Several recovered items are still unclaimed. Contact city police if you think the items may be yours. State Rep. Marty Causer will no longer head the House Game and Fisheries Committee in the new Legislative session that starts tomorrow. House Speaker-Designate Mike Turzai made the announcement regarding committee chairs just a few moments ago, and Causer will now head the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee. State Rep. Keith Gillespie of York County will now head the Game and Fisheries Committee. State Rep. Matt Baker will head up the Health Committee. “Agriculture is our state’s top industry, and that’s because our farms and agribusinesses are operated by some of the hardest-working people in the Commonwealth,” said Causer. “I look forward to working together to ensure the industry continues to thrive in every way, from the smallest family farm to the largest processing operations.” Causer grew up on a dairy farm in McKean County and represents a region rich in crop and livestock farming, as well as timbering and maple syrup production. Jessica Gabriel has been named assistant vice president of Northwest Savings Bank. James Swanson, vice president, Deposit Operations, made the announcement. In her role, Ms. Gabriel will continue to manage the IRA/HSA, Deposit Services, Reporting Services, Research and Returned Mail departments of the bank. She will also assume responsibility of Deposit Administration. Ms. Gabriel will continue to oversee employees in the Operations Department’s management trainee program. Ms. Gabriel joined Northwest in June 2002 as a management trainee in the Investment Management and Trust Department. She served as a Trust Officer until her move to the Operations Department in 2008. She earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Penn State University Erie, The Behrend College. Ms. Gabriel recently completed, with honors, the Pennsylvania Bankers Association’s Advanced School of Banking. Two men are accused of stealing more than $1,200 worth of two-inch pipe from Cameron Energy. Police say 36-year-old Christopher Nelson of Tiona and 38-year-old Donnie Edwards of Sheffield took more than 5 ½ tons of pipe from property in Sheffield Township between December 11 and 17. Troopers are investigating similar thefts in the Henrys Mills area of the township and are asking anyone with pertinent information to contact them. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Natural gas prices may be going down again. National Fuel has told the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission they expect a decrease in gas supply charges this year, meaning they would lower their rates by about 2 percent starting in August. The bill for a typical residential customer would decrease from $73 to $71 a month. This is just a forecast for the winter of 2015-16, and must be reviewed and approved by the PUC before becoming effective. It could also be adjusted to reflect current market prices. A man is accused of lying to police during a traffic stop this morning. Police stopped Victor Lushbaugh of Kane at 7:47 a.m. for a stop sign violation and, when they asked him for identification, he didn’t have any with him and didn't give them his real name. He was charged with a misdemeanor count of giving false identification to law enforcement and several summary offenses. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused a fire that destroyed a Smethport home on New Year’s Eve. State Police Fire Marshal Robert Southern says the blaze did about $100,000 worth of damage to the home of 85-year-old Donald Hull, but he hasn’t pinpointed a cause yet. The fire started at about 10:15 p.m. on the first floor of the house and then went up a wall and through the roof. Firefighters say the house was engulfed in flames when they arrived. All the fire departments in Elk County were called to the former Suzy’s Furniture Store on Route 255 early this morning for a blaze that heavily damaged the building. All four lanes of Route 255 were shut down at about 2:45 a.m. while firefighters battled the blaze. Quick Stop Sally is missing. The owners of the Quick Stop Market in Kane bought Sally the mannequin near the end of summer and put her out in front the store, where employees dressed her for the seasons. She was taken at 11 o’clock Monday night, and you can see surveillance video of the mannequin-napping on our Facebook page, Facebook.com/1490wesb . City of Bradford Police on Thursday investigated a possible violation of drug laws on Elm Street and a theft on Bushnell Street. They were called about disturbances on Barbour and Petrolia streets, disorderly conduct on Mechanic Street and harassment by communication on Walker Avenue.
